'The Lost Metal' By Brandon Sanderson Finally Gets Official Cover

For quite some time now, I've been jokingly fooling myself and some of dear Brandon Sanderson's fans that I already have a copy of The Lost Metal by the same author (after travelling into the future and procuring my self a copy). Way back when I was fond of making almost realistic fan covers for upcoming books I created a mock-up of what I thought the cover of his next book will be after studying and investigating the logic in the previous ones just to appease my self and my OCD-riddled brain.

I can't even recall now why I chose the maroon-burgundyish motif, which turned out to be the same color preferred by the designer when the placeholder book cover was released. I just have a vague idea that there was indeed a reason behind that and that there were certain assumed rules to follow... One of those rules is that Wax would always be on the right side of the cover.

The Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson Placeholder Cover

When I created the fan made cover (which I don't have a copy anymore, because my old machine broke down), I chose a consistent art by artist Chris McGrath (intended for another author's book cover), but one where the model for Wax is featured on the left side along with another character. This is to give signal to true Brandon Sanderson fans (at least those who adore the covers) that this cover is not authentic... and no one caught that signal. But oh boy I was shaken through my bones again because in the offical cover McGrath featured Wax on the left side of the cover rather than the usual right, breaking what I assumed to be as an unbreakable rule (thank you very much OCD). How odd...

I was dumb struck again. It's so wonderful like how often this happens to almost similar minded people. I know I am just a frustated fan cover artist, but it feels like magic in this mundane existence.

But anyhow now that the official one is released, all we have to do is to thank artist Chris McGrath and the designer (which I don't always see credited in the back dust jacket flap, asumming this one has the same). Check out the official cover of The Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson.

The Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson

Synopsis

Return to #1 New York Times bestseller Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn world of Scadrial as its second era, which began with The Alloy of Law, comes to its earth-shattering conclusion in The Lost Metal.

For years, frontier lawman turned big-city senator Waxillium Ladrian has hunted the shadowy organization the Set―with his late uncle and his sister among their leaders―since they started kidnapping people with the power of Allomancy in their bloodlines. When Detective Marasi Colms and her partner Wayne find stockpiled weapons bound for the Outer City of Bilming, this opens a new lead. Conflict between Elendel and the Outer Cities only favors the Set, and their tendrils now reach to the Elendel Senate―whose corruption Wax and Steris have sought to expose―and Bilming is even more entangled.

After Wax discovers a new type of explosive that can unleash unprecedented destruction and realizes that the Set must already have it, an immortal kandra serving Scadrial’s god, Harmony, reveals that Bilming has fallen under the influence of another god: Trell, worshipped by the Set. And Trell isn’t the only factor at play from the larger Cosmere―Marasi is recruited by offworlders with strange abilities who claim their goal is to protect Scadrial...at any cost.

Wax must choose whether to set aside his rocky relationship with God and once again become the Sword that Harmony has groomed him to be. If no one steps forward to be the hero Scadrial needs, the planet and its millions of people will come to a sudden and calamitous ruin.

'The Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson will be released on November 15, 2022.
